Valentine's Day Sitting Room

A few months ago we moved to – and renovated – this home for our family. Now that we’re unpacked, cleaned up, and settled, I’m excited to be able to let my love for seasonal decorating take flight once again! Here’s a peek at some of the lovey-dovey touches that I added for February.

This sitting room is located directly off the kitchen. It truly is my favourite space in the house! If you know me well, you might know that one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver is Honey Salt at Parq Vancouver. The interior design team there did such a magnificent job at creating a space that has details that are pretty and elevated (with lots of white and millwork) while still keeping a relaxed and comfortable feel. When I’m there, I feel like I’m at home Hamptons home. (Well, how I imagine it would be if I had one! lol)

This family room off of the kitchen is an interesting size. It felt too small for a couch and loveseat – so Kyle and I dreamed up the idea of four highback wing chairs around a coffee table. We treated it as an extension of the kitchen. It’s the best place to enjoy morning coffee!

I also like to add decorative touches the incorporate my cookbooks and food. Again, this is something you will see at Honey Salt Restaurant. Jars of canned goods, books, treats, and more. I want it to have feelings of a super luxe and elevated butler’s pantry!

With that inspiration in mind, I created these adorable DIY candy and floral arrangements. I like to think that you get the flavour of a candy cupboard (or candy store) with jars of treats for Valentines Day. The idea is NOT to eat the candies… though I think someone has been sneaking liquorice!

In my opinion, seasonal decorating can be fun and relaxed. I used a combination of store bought pieces, DIY items (the florals), inexpensive touches, (the window clings on the mirror), and these rose coloured glasses – which add some whimsy and character! You’ll often spot an element of ‘fashion’ in my displays. It doesn’t have to make total sense
