Spring Makeup Kit

What’s Inside My Kit This Spring?

I’m sharing my updated go-to makeup routine with absolute favourite daily products, old and new.

Spring is probably the most anticipated season in beauty, because it comes after most people’s least favourite months. As we see spring fashion rolling into our favourite boutiques, we are also excited to brighten up our makeup routines and probably try a few new products. Though I like to keep my daily makeup application fairly classic throughout the year, for April, I’m excited to sweeten up my look with and emphasis on blush and glossy lips!

Cosmetics and the power of makeup are some of my favourite topics to share! In any beauty article I share, you’ll read that I am very particular about the products that I use. Because of this, when I find something that works for me, I’m fiercely loyal.

I have a love/hate with product testing. I adore browsing what’s new on the shelves. I love checking out the packaging and the shades. But once I get it home, I’m demanding of it! It’s not fun spending your hard-earned cash on something that you’re disappointed in. Luckily, stores like Sephora do refund purchases you’re not satisfied with.

I would say roughly only 25% of what I try makes the cut. Because of this, when I share my seasonal makeup kit, a lot of the time, you might see my must-haves carried over. For example, the foundation I use has been my ‘ride-or-die’ for years. Even though I may try others, I am not going to share new products just for the sake of creating new content! If you see something new, you’ll know that it must be legit!

Here’s my Spring 2022 Makeup routine from start to finish.

SKINCARE

The focus of this article is on makeup but it’s important to begin with a clean, exfoliated, and moisturized face so that the makeup glides on and performs it’s best for you.
Make sure to give the products time to absorb. I am currently using my go-to products from the Vichy Idealia line which includes their cleanser, serum, moisturizer and eye cream.

#1 PRIMER

e.l.f. Poreless Primer

At a reasonable $8 price tag, this drugstore primer is a great pore filler, for my T-zone area.

#2 FOUNDATION

Dior Backstage Airflash
Foundation

Shade 100. I’m not pulling any punches, this is a pricey, luxury product, but I’m not just being bougie for the sake of it! I struggle with most foundations and because I wear glasses, there is constantly movement on my face. This foundation has a weightless, porcelain finish. It goes on a like a dream. Foundation is one item where I don’t feel too bad allocating budget to. I’ve found so many other great affordable makeup items, so I don’t feel bad blowing the budget on creating the best canvas possible.

#3 CONCEALER

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in 110 Fair

I’ve tested some much more expensive concealers for my under-eye, but came back to my longtime fave – the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. The product pumps and applies through a unique sponge tip, and I love how evenly it applies.

#4 BROWS

NYX Precision Brow Pencil

NYX Micro Brow Pencil

NYX Fill & Fluff

Shade Taupe.

I have been changing up the way I do my brows lately and it’s gotten a little more in-depth, but I am having fun with it (and getting compliments galore!) Some days, I will use the Micro Brow pencil to create fine hair strokes, then go in with the Fill & Fluff which applies more softly to smoke and blur. This pencil comes with the most beautiful, soft, dense brush for blending. Most days, I will also use the Precision pencil (which is a fine chisel shape) to carve the shape of the arch and tail. Yes - I’m up to three brow pencils! I know it sounds crazy, but it’s a game-changer!

#5 POWDERS & CONTOUR

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder

I purchased a mini size to try this out and I am ABSOLUTELY a believer! It’s an ultra-fine setting powder that blurs imperfections and visibly reduces shine. I mostly go in with this to set my concealer, eyelids and nose. It’s also a great took to keep in your back pocket if you overdo the bronzer want to bring out a brighter tone beneath your contour.

Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit

I can’t get away from this. I have repurchased it many times in the past couple of years. Depending on the look I am going for, or if I’m tanned, I can blend combinations of the 3 colours to create the perfect cheek bronzer shade and contour.

#7 BLUSH

Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics Sunkissed

It’s a beautiful pink flush pared in the compact with ‘Bronze Moment’ bronzer. The blush definitely suits me more than the bronzer (which is a bit warm for my complexion) but I sometimes swirl them together for a blended custom colour.

#8 FINISHING POWDER

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light

I have gone on record calling this ‘photoshop in a compact’. I don’t know what kind of magic that makes this voodoo do-so-well. LOL I like to use it just as it sounds - as a finishing powder. The final touch, layered on top of all of the lighter powders and products on my face to smooth and diffuse it into the contour and blush. It acts like a blurring tool to erase any harsh lines in my application.

#9 EYE SHADOW

Makeup Forever Custom Palette

Some time ago I created my own custom 6-shade palette at Sephora from the Makeup Forever selection. It has my basics and recently I’ve been reaching for it religiously. I don’t have record of the shade names, but the palette includes my ‘daily driver’ shades – an ivory colour which I lay down as the base, a midtown brown crease colour, a darker brown to amp it up, and black which I use as my lower liner.

Smashbox Cover Shot: Petal Metal Eye Palette

This was a Christmas gift that I recently have rediscovered. It has the most beautiful frosted, reflective shimmers. I like to add a little of the lightest colour ‘Fresh Stem’ in my inner corners and brow bone to make my eye look pop. I also like to use my finger to apply some of the metallic rose gold shades over my lid on days that I want to go the extra mile… and when I do this, it sure does come out extra special.

#11 MASCARA

L'Oréal Paris air Volume Mega Mascara

Ladies, I’m REALLY diggin’ this mascara. Mascara is usually something that I like to dabble with, but as I come to the end of this tube, I’m definitely going to go another round with it. I find that it really lifts and holds lashes up when you apply with intention. Lashes are super thick and fluffy.

#12 SETTING SPRAY

My all time favourite is the Urban Decay All-Niter, but I’ll be honest… I haven’t been using setting spray much lately.

#13 EVERYDAY LIPS

Milani Ludicrous Lipgloss In Semi Charmed - The perfect gloss with a hint of mauve pink.

Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Liv It Up - A sweet rose pink that is perfect for spring. I love to layer the Milani gloss on top!

Milani Understatement Lip Liner in Nude Entrance - This pink-nude lip liner glides on smooth and pigmented. If you fill in the entire lip, it comes off like lipstick. It’s great with so many of my lipsticks and even worn alone with gloss on top.

As seen in the April 2022 Issue of the Everyday Beautiful Living eMagazine.
